Asian Dragon Dec 2014-Jan 2015

Fashion and travel together is amazing work and fun experience.  Exploring new places is fascinating and stretches the imagination to produce larger than life images that are meant to be relevantly inspiring.  The author and the Asian Dragon magazine team shot in Thailand a few months back and was challenged by a theme for editorial fashion.  Loads of boxes of Filipino designer wear were transported to Bangkok to be shot at heritage sights that have become the backdrop to forefronting fashion.  Despite the extreme heat where we constantly bathed in sweat, the fun never stops as we laughed our way throughout the shoot.  The result, are picture perfect images that not only displayed the best of Philippine fashion but also the passion of the team that had a memorable and experience to last forever.

BTS Fashion 2015

Working for a fashion magazine means forecasting trends way before the market gets it.  Shooting a fashion editorial takes two months in advance before publishing.  With this comes sourcing of pieces such as clothes and accessories that fall under a specific look or theme.  Setting takes place too as these editorials depict things larger than life.  This author recently shot at Flower Island in Taytay, Palawan with two editorials and a jewelry feature at task.  Despite weather conditions, rain or shine the show must go on.  Early call times and countless layouts seem like a huge pile of work, but with great company and energy everything just falls into place.  The team breezed through it with all smiles and this is when everything makes it worthwhile.  Work is never a task as long as everyone is driven by pure passion an most importantly the good company that they keep. Here are some moments that captured the essence beyond fashion.

People Asia's Women of Style and Substance 2014

People Asia's Women of Style an Substance 2014 was held yesterday at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Manila.  This author and his team was tasked to style and direct the mini fashion show featuring the clothes of Vise Versa and bags by Hartmann. Starting the day at 9am, the team had to set up backstage and made sure that everything was in order.  Steaming clothes, arranging racks, sequencing the pieces and organizing accessories was done in a couple of hours til rehearsal.  Rehearsals with the models started at 2pm and since most of us were "family", it only took us 1 run to do everything.  Fighting against the winter weather temperature in the ballroom, we were all trickling in and out to get some warmth, a bit of sun and a stick of cigarette to burn.  After the quick rehearsal, hair and makeup followed.  One by one the girls sat in front of the mirror to be dolled up by NARS into the look that was set for the show. As always, backstage was seemingly like a playground filled with kids and once again the team travelled through time back into our teenage years.  A familiar setting everyone seem to enjoy since no one was unfamiliar. As the show started, everyone was set in high spirits to present a good show.  The fashion show ended on a high note and nothing can compare to having a great time with an amazing fashion family.  Fashion and play together never feels like work.

Women of Style and Substance 2014

People Asia-one of the prestigious glossies in the Philippines-unveils its Women of Style and Substance in their August-September 2014 issue. Since 2005, the annual tribute to celebrate women boasts of an impeccable lineup of noteworthy movers and outstanding achievers representing various industries in the country. These exemplary individuals are the epitome of success and great inspiration to many. The embodiment of the modern woman, this years list include Alice Dixson, Toni Gonzaga, Alexandra Rocha, Bea Rose Santiago, Kara David, Iya Villania, Malou Romero, Jenny Rockett, Ingrid Chua-Go, Mia Arcenas, Alyssa Valdez, Reina Reyes, Maricar Parco, Bianca Guidotti, Yvethe Santiago and MJ Lastimosa.

Forecast

Shooting editorial samples can be quite exciting. You get the opportunity to check out the stuff even before they appear in glossies or make it to the stores-some even don't at all. As a fashion stylist, these collections are circulated by region and the ones that land on the pages of international mainstream magazines such as Vogue, Bazaar, Elle and the likes. Handling merchandise can be quite taxing due to the probability that they get damaged. But with these things, due to their "editorial" use, the stylist gets free hand in doing whatever creative execution. Recently shot an editorial for People Asia using these international brands from Stores Specialists Inc.(SSI) and showcasing their trend forecast for the summer season. Cheers!
