Mozza Bravo

Food!  A passion of mine to last a lifetime.  While the author was in Singapore to support designer Joey Samson for taking taking part in the  inaugural Menswear Fashion Week held at the Marina Bay Sands, we couldn't help but think of our dining itinerary in between breaks.  Walking around the huge Marina Bay Sands can take the whole day but once hunger hits you, whatever catches your eye first becomes the destination.  After spending the whole morning checking, fixing and finishing up minor adjustments with the clothes, Joey and I decided to have lunch at the popular Pizzeria and Osteria Mozza.  The world-class restaurant by Mario Batali ( a master chef of italian cuisine) is an adaptation of the original in California with some additions to the menu.  The food was outstandingly delicious and we were both savoring all the flavors in our mouth.  We took our time eating moving from one dish to another  with a gastronomic high.  From the bone marrow appetizer, to the suckling pig entree and prociutto pizza, Batali's brilliance is all worth it and one shouldn't miss if they happen to be in Singapore.  Everything exceeded the author's expectations as a foodie, and we wanted to indulge a bit more leaning towards gluttony but thank God time was on our side coz we were about to meet photographer Joan Bitagcol (coming straight from the airport) someplace else.  wouldn't mind coming back, it was definitely a great dining experience.

Day 5: Singapore Menswear Fashion Week 2011-Joey Samson

Designer Joey Samson made a mark at the inaugural Singapore Menswear Fashion Week 2011.  The success of the 40-piece design narrative showcasing a unique aesthetic is Filipino fashion in modern translation.  Construction and detailing is style exemplified with the use of a variety of fabrics and contemporary neutrals.  Pushing the boundaries, new forms, cuts and silhouettes took shape in fashion forward edge.  Checks of all sizes paraded the runways with pinstriped or plain textured tapered pants.  The traditional and classic was impressively reinvented in detailing and updating styling sensibilities. Fine tailoring are masterfully displayed seamlessly on the endless runway with an upbeat feel of the times. The essence in mind in his exemplary collection is all about dressing up modern Pinoy fashion in the international style landscape. Filipino talent is definitely world-class!  Mabuhay!

Day 4: Singapore Menswear Fashion Week 2011- Karl Lagerfeld Exhibit

After rehearsals, we headed to the MBS mall and saw this interesting exhibit showcasing the black and white photos of one of global fashion's living icon--Karl Lagerfeld.   One of the most influential moving force in fashion today is at the helm of top labels such as Chanel, Fendi, Lagerfeld Gallery and Karl Lagerfeld. The design master in nearly the past decade has taken photography as another feather on his cap and is a proprietor of a bookshop and publishing house as well.  This ongoing exhibit is part of Singapore Menswear Fashion Week 2011.

Shoe-Iconic

Walking inside Marina Bay Sands(MBS) is a stroll in the park.  MBS has two sides, one is the hotel ( which by the way has towers 1-3) while the other is the convention area(where the main luxury brands are located). I decided to take a look around while killing time and try to check out the latest window displays.  Saw the YSL muse 2 in multicolor and was quite disappointed to see its size.  The colors are as good as the ones you see in the latest fashion editorial in international glossies, leather is excellent but the size is complimentary to those who are petite.  Definitely not functional but excellent to play and display.  As I got out of the store, I was distracted by the size of a shoe which I remember correctly has already been marked in history.  Low and behold beside the escalator was this colossal masterpiece by Salvatore Ferragamo.   The replica is the legendary rainbow sandal which was built in 1938 for hollywood icon Judy Garland(Wizard of Oz).  The original piece can be seen at the Museo Salvatore Ferragamo Situated in Florence, on the basement of Palazzo Spini Feroni, Via Tornabuoni n. 2. Opened to the public in 1995, the museum was built as an homage to showcase Ferragamo's exceptional artistry and relevance in the history of shoe design and global fashion.   Indeed, this is proof that the highest level of artistic expositions and brilliance in design produce fantastic masterpieces worth living for.   And as the saying goes, "great shoes do come a long way."

Day 1: Singapore Menswear Fashion Week 2011

It was a really long day for the "Pinoy" team participating at the Singapore Menswear Fashion week.  We arrived at Marina Bay Sands convention center early in the afternoon and started fitting the models at 7pm.  Joey Samson's team (including the author) did preparations and final check on the collection prior to the fitting.  We had a total of 20 models of which will all wear two sets to complete the 40 piece collection. The fitting was a bit chaotic not because there was lack in organization but there were quite a handful of drop dead models.  Fortunately one Filipino model--Laxie Villar (Mercator)--currently trying the market made it to the lineup. Two other Filipino designers namely Jerome Llorico and Jasler Ubaldo (Singapore based) are also participating and will be part of the group shows. The shows are all slated on April 2--Jerome and Jasler will be part of the 3pm show while Joey will be having a solo show at 5pm.  The venue is huge but still being set up, but am looking forward when everything is all ready for the opening of the grand event tomorrow.  Singapore Menswear Fashion week is from March 30-April 3,showcasing a range of menswear designs from the best of the region.
