“I am yours in my entirety, as long as you do not wake” is the running statement behind Artist Tokwa Peñaflorida's interpretations of the journey to sleep. Visual expositions showcasing sprites, spirits, different cultural dream concepts such as the bangungot or batibat of Philippine folklore, the incubus, succubus and dreamcatchers by the Native Americans are all included in his latest exhibit entitled "Hypnagogia: Brink Of Sleep" which unfolds today at Vinyl on Vinyl located in The Collective, Makati city.
The exhibition on melancholic “sleep creatures” reflects and recalls sensations of the dreamer from both state of consciousness to unconsciousness and vis a vis. The up and coming artist displays strokes of genius influenced by the works of Alphonse Mucha, Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, and Japanese pop art. He uses different techniques such as wash, and mediums, mostly acrylic and watercolor.
Enter the world of Peñaflorida's artistry as he showcases the depths of emotions through symbolisms of reality. Redefining perspectives, it's a definite must-go for everyone to see.
